This album is the first installment of Segerstam's original Brahms symphony cycle with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. All albums will be available on CD/SACD hybrid with DSD 5.0 surround sound layer. Instead of the most common fillers - Overtures and Haydn Variations - they have decided to set one of the conductor's own colourful symphony to disc. Each upcoming album will continue on this way - one symphony of Brahms and one symphony of Segerstam.
I bought this disc about six months ago and I after that have listened it only once. My first experiences were very positive. Brahms' symphony was performed very well. Segerstam managed to find the dark and creamy tone of the music and Alba's clear multichannel recording brought this achievement to the listener in a pleasant way. The conductor's own symphony was an interesting but bland bonus. Recommended, nonetheless.
