Thanks Bill, your synopsis is very helpful indeed. Compilations of a single composers works or extracts of works are not all that appealing to me but there is a dearth of ...
Finally En Saga and Tapiola on SACD! The PENTATONE RQR (En Saga) and Ashkenazy/Exton or Kamu/BIS (Tapiola) were not really satisfying for me. Looks like a must-have album for ...
As I listen to more and more versions of Mahler 4, I realize that I am more interested in the subtle and rich versions available. I started with Gergiev/LSO and initially was ...
Thank you Stephen. I've finally had a opportunity to try your tip, and you're quite right, disconnecting the center channel brings the whole presentation into better focus.
Rhino set the bar high with this release, the mono mixes along with the Best of on Blu-Ray. The AF SACD is great, this is better 1) for the cost. 2)the Mono's. 3) the sound.
For those who have expected more for 2017:

I wonder if Dynamic range will be the same as on infamous 2003 so called remasters or better?
I have finally inspected this disc:
Please, pay ATTENTION to these references -
the former is done by myself just yesterday evening and the comparison with the latter proves that resolution AFFECTS dynamics (not vastly but significantly).
Also the latter is not by me but someone, who is probably better equipped than me :-)
Nevertheless these releases are still far from the original dynamics present on the first Japanese double CD release VJD 25009~10 or very fine UK release CDVD 2513.
The Japanese double CD in a fat box slightly differs from Uk single release in that respect of the exact copy of the vinyl release where audience noise is cut off on the Japanese while UK release has audience mixed in at places where vinyl omits it. No big deal, but I like Japanese double CDs.
Conclusion: all this post is to support better remastering of the recorded music at the dawn of the digital era.
