Comparison between this StereoSound SACD and the Universal Japan SHM-SACD of the same recording:
The differences are not groundbreaking, but they are easy to perceive. I particularly like that the deep bass frequencies are more present than with the SHM-SACD. The sound panorama appears much more spacious and extensive. It looks a bit like sitting a little closer to the master tape. The overall sound also seems a bit more relaxed at the same time. In the quieter movements such as Venus, Saturn and Neptune, the delicate sounds of celesta, harp and glockenspiel come into their own. This SACD is a good example of the advancement in remastering technology / software. Improvements are clearly due to the more advanced technology.
The SHM-SACD never really got me excited. On the other hand, I am really happy with the sound of this SS-SACD.
