This is a beautifully recorded live album, recorded in Copenhagen in 1979. Stephan Grappelli was in 1979 the same (perhaps even better) wonderful jazz violinist of 35 years earlier and he takes the lead on many of the tunes. During the mid-thirties he and Django Rheinhardt formed the "Quintet of the Hot Club of France", whose music was a favorite of my jazz-loving father. I grew up listening to his music, and can speak with some authority on this.

Not only is he great on Nuages, a tribute to those days, but he excels as an improvisor on many of the mostly standards that flesh out the album. In the company of Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Mickey Roker, and Niels-Henning Orsted-Petersen, that is no mean feat.

I defy any jazz lover not to like this album!
