I never cease to be amazed by the SQ of Universal (Japan) retreads, re-mastered from the original studio tapes in DSD and kept in that domain throughout the editing chain. Apart from the usual spurious grumbles about dynamic range and frequency extension - which are largely hypothetical anyway - in my opinion the resulting SQ from this recording chain is the best available on optical disc, better in fact than more modern direct DSD recording of live performances.
This is a wonderful set of performances by the BSO and everyone should buy a copy to revel in the sheer joy of reproduced music.

Great comment…. I'm trying to decide which financially-irresponsible purchase to make, this Ozawa recording or the SHM-SACD of Karajan/BPO in their '73 Zarathustra. Which Japanese reissue represents the most sonic gain over prior digital versions?
