Shlomo Mintz, violin
Clifford Benson, piano

Not only was Fritz Kreisler (1875–1962) one of the greatest and most influential violinists of his time, he also was an excellent composer. Both of Kreisler’s original compositions and his arrangements of works by other composers still form an integral part of many violin concert programmes. This SACD presents a 1981 all Kreisler recital given by violinist Shlomo Mintz, together with pianist Clifford Benson.

Another of the quadraphonic recordings made by Deutsche Grammophon in the 70s and early 80s that can finally be enjoyed in the sound quality it was supposed to have right from the start. Mintz’s impeccable technique and outstanding virtuosity and Kreisler’s delightfully heart-warming compositions and arrangements can now be enjoyed to their fullest. Truly a beautiful flower to unfurl its petals in the ever-growing bouquet of PENTATONE’s REMASTERED CLASSICS series. In short, anyone who loves inspired violin playing, and who is also prepared to delight in sentimentality, cannot ignore Kreisler’s works and Shlomo Mintz’s art of interpretation.
