What a fine Brahms cycle! Apart from being surprisingly well-recorded, Sanderling's account reveals lots of interesting detail. Especially the wood winds are treated with love and care. Overall sound is remarkably transparent and enables the listener to follow almost all instruments.

For me, this set is a bit of a revealation and it definitely puts some of the 'big names' in their places. Wholeheartedly recommended!

I whole-heartedly agree with Contrapunctus. This was a revelation for me as well when I heard it. I'd place this in the top 5 of all Brahms cycles: up there with Bruno Walter, Otto Klemperer, István Kertesz. (The 5th spot is floating according to my mood!)
