I completely agree on the much smaller package! But alas, all of these Berliner Philharmoniker releases are gigantic deluxe boxes that I have absolutely no shelf space for. :(
Does anyone know why Symphonies 1, 2 and 3 were never released on SACD? They were also part of Karajan's Bruckner cycle with the Berlin Philharmonic.
@hiredfox Sorry, but we are talking about different things. I talked about multi track recordings. Indeed these recordings can not be mixed in DSD. You are talking about ...
AOS, we will have to agree to disagree but that's fine.

Symphonies 1-3 were recorded digitally in PCM (16/44.1). Especially No.1 suffers a lot from the new digital technology (strings sound horrible and distorted). No.2 is my ...
Does it get any better than Sibelius?
Thank you, Contrapunctus, for your prompt and informed reply. I guess then we should applaud Universal Japan and Emil Berliner Studios for not having released these as SACDs. ...
Slight misgivings about the SQ in stereo which seems to be far too heavily concentrated in the middle third of the sound-stage with little of note happening on the sides.

Another excellent SACD from the Tower Records Japan and ECM collaboration.
Again the DSD remaster has been done by Christoph Stickel in 01/2017.
The sound of this title is warmer than the Koln Concert SACD and not quite as detailed. Maybe the tape stock used for the recording was not of as high quality. Still it sounds wonderful and is very analogue in character. Separation and sound staging is excellent. There is also little evidence of compression.
Get it while you can.
I will second the previous reviewers comments. Spot on in their assessment of this fine SACD release by guitarist Pat Metheny.
