A puzzling selection of albums licensed from Concord and Universal. All but one – Wes Montgomery's "Full House" – have been previously released on SACD, some of them several times. Moreover, there seems to be no thematic or stylistic thread drawing the albums together, except, perhaps, the premature demise of several of the artists.
"Full House" is more than deserving of remastering for SACD. The performance was recorded live in Berkeley, California in 1962 by Wally Heider, and finds Wes and pianist Wynton Kelly at the peak of their creative powers. Earlier audiophile reissues, Acoustic Sounds 180-gm LP, DCC Gold compact disc and JVC XRCD compact disc, are long out of print. I hope this title eventually appears as a single and reasonably affordable SACD.
