Ivan Fischer's Beethoven 6 was one of the finest Beethoven performances of the modern era. "Eroica" is a far more complex work and it will be interesting to see what he makes ...
I bought this earlier this month in Hong Kong - it is labelled as a Chandos Classics release, no mention of Obsession. (P) date is 1966 (C) date is 2003, country of origin is ...

The original recording was excellent. The original quadraphonic mix was excellent. Dutton Vocalion have done a magnificent job in producing an SACD that sounds excellent too. Buy with confidence.

Only referring to the Stereo layer here;
Yes this is a well done SACD master and sounds very good. Compression is not an issue and it seems to be a pretty flat transfer to SACD. The soundstage is also very good.
They really filled up the tape in the recording process and on the denser tracks this can highlight the limitations of the recording technology available back then. On the less dense tracks though this SACD master really shines.
I would love them to do Watermark as well - my favourite at least.
