Michael Tilson Thomas (conductor)

Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony bring unsurpassed storytelling and musicality to their latest recording on the Grammy Award-winning SFS Media label: Berlioz’s dramatic symphony Roméo et Juliette. With a narrative that Berlioz deemed “too beautiful, too musical” to not be performed, this impassioned orchestral scoring of love and despair is further enriched by the vocals of Sasha Cooke, Nicholas Phan, Luca Pisaroni, and the SFS Chorus. Available in studio master-quality on two-disc SACD and for digital download and streaming.

Good to see them back, for a while it looked like we had also them to the Streamers!

I hear that MTT is stepping down as Chief Conductor and Music Director at the end of this season so his SFS Media series of recordings is likely to become very collectable. Get them whilst you can is my best advice.

Very big boots to fill. Hasn't proved to be easy for the RCO post Janssons and it won't be easy for SFS. MTT is surely one of the all time greats.

By the way this is an excellent account of Berloiz's Romeo & Juliette, brilliantly sung and finely recorded. Thoroughly recommended.
