I have followed the development of this series with great interest due to the excellent and fresh interpretations in the glorious acoustics of Brucknertage St. Florian, Stiftsbasilika, St. Forian. As far as I know this recording was made at 24-bit 192 kHz high-res PCM and the result was upsampled to DSD for SACD production. (Ps. In addition to the physical product Presto Music offers high-res FLAC downloads, including lossless 24-bit 192 kHz).

If the Covid-19 does not affect to the plans Ballot will conduct the composer’s Symphony No. 4 on 21 August 2020 at the International Brucknertage Festival, St. Florian Basilica, Upper Austria. So most likely this will be the next installment to the series. As far as I remember, John Gladney Proffitt (recording producer and balance engineer) kindly revealed to us that in some point in the future Symphony No. 3, which was released back then only on a standard CD and in stereo sound, will be re-recorded in Surround Sound for an SACD release. Interesting stuff ahead!

Dissonance, I share your interest!

The recording of symphony #6 is quite compelling with much that is eyebrow lifting and enjoyable for those who can accommodate to the unusual. So i also look forward to hearing this symphony # 2.

The 2020 Brucknertage Summer Music Festival has been substantially reduced due to Covid-19, including rescheduling the performance of Bruckner Symphony 4, with the Altomonte-Orchester and Rémy Ballot, to August 2021. We will record for Gramola SACD release, of course.

Symphony 4 in E-flat major, Romantic (1888, ed. Korstvedt), was recorded in August 2021 and will be issued by Gramola on 5.0 SACD in early 2022. It was a fabulous performance, IMO!
