At about 6:30 into the second track, "Strange Meadow Lark" (2012 AP SACD, stereo program), Brubeck plays a chordal passage very forcefully. There was probably some mic preamp ...
Oftentimes, a magnificent recording, such as this one, will fall into the abyss merely because of its age. Of the many recordings I have available to me, this one, however, is ...
This doesn't seem much different than an ordinary CD. Sam's voice doesn't sound any different than listening on the radio. Some songs are very nice, like Another Saturday ...

Issued this year by Hong Kong (Universal) in a limited edition numbered run of 1,000. The hybrid disk is made (but not for sale) in Japan.
It has also subsequently been issued unnumbered, but still not for sale in Japan. My copy is one of the unnumbered ones.
The SACD includes the same 'bonus' content and uses the same 2002 remastering as the 2002 CD reissue that was released first in Japan back in 2002. In 2003 it was also released in other countries. I have been unable to find any information on who was responsible for the remastering. That the reissue with bonus tracks remaster happened first in Japan may be a pointer, but who knows. There is no information on the DSD transfer either.
The average DR of the 2002 remaster came in at 12 and this seems to have carried through to the SACD as well.
Sound wise the SACD is an improvement over the CD. Being smoother and relatively more organic sounding. It retains that 80's sound signature and the PCM origins of the 2002 remaster, but is a very good listen all the same. The 2002 remaster resulted in fuller bass and this continues on the SACD.
It's a wonderful album and you are unlikely to hear a better sounding version.

I love this album! This stereo SACD has a smooth sound - and it's great to have the bonus tracks. For those that are interested here is a fascinating story behind it:
