Comment by Dissonance - May 20, 2020 (1 of 8)

Quite frustrating to see this release taking place, Jochum’s Bruckner cycle has been already reissued on SA-CD by Universal Japan and even twice as they started to duplicate the firstly released albums without any logical reason.

Comment by Sintolt the Hegeling - May 21, 2020 (2 of 8)

Universal Japan has issued on SACD Symphonies 7, 8, 9, and the Te Deum. Tower Japan apparently plans on issuing Symphonies 1 - 9, plus the choral Motets, and (I'm guessing) the Te Deum. Tbese multi-volume releases are only a partial duplication of Universal Japan's previous efforts. And couple of years ago, Tower Japan issued Jochum's EMI Dresden set on SACD.

Volume 2 (4-6) announced. Since I already have 7-9 from Universal Japan, so will skip Volume 3 unless there is marked improvement in remastering.

Comment by Contrapunctus - June 22, 2020 (4 of 8)

Hui Zhu, I think that the 3rd Vol. (7-9) will contain a new EBS remastering only for symphony 7. Unlike symphonies 8&9, which were remastered only a few years ago, the 7th symphony's remaster dates back at least to 2011. (The same happened with Kubelik's Dvorak cycle: symphonies 8&9 had been newly remastered.)

I have just received and listened to this set of Bruckner symphonies. I find this to be the very best sounding of any re-issue disc(s) in my whole collection. I have quite a few of Japanese re-issues including a large number of Esoteric releases, other Tower releases, many of the 2004 Universal Japan releases, but this one takes the top for sound quality. I now have a Ruby player, since July 2020, and that is a big reason for the high quality sound. I already commented on the Ruby player in the Gilels Brahms Piano Concerto comments section.

I was right in my guess: Tower Records is going to release the 3rd volume of Jochum's Bruckner cycle. Also included: Te Deum and 150. Psalm. - The 7th symphony and 150. psalm are new EBS remasterings from 08/2020; symphonies 8+9 and Te Deum is the same EBS remaster from the SHM-SACD releases (2017? 2018?).

Release date for Vol. 3 is October 21 according to CD Japan website.

I wonder if Tower Records will also release Jochum's recordings of the Masses. One can consider they are also part of this series of recordings: they were done with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and released by Deutsche Grammophon.
