Marvelous transfer on SHM SA-CD by Universal Japan. Hard to believe this was recorded in 1959. Given the SHM program's philosophy of doing things all flat and transparent, it is very doubtful there was any restoration on this material, so I will venture assuming the tapes are in perfect condition. The analogue quality of the sound is exquisitely rendered, like hearing a technically ideal and perfect vinyl record -- with an even better dynamic range. This album may have been recorded with ribbon microphones and valve equipment, the high frequencies having this very particular sheen, golden shiny and soft at the same time... the piano is mellow while not lacking presence, the bass is clearly audible without being ever overwhekmed by another instrument, and the drum kit is simply astounding by its sonic definition.
A must-have !!!

(Unlike previous generations of SHM SA-CDs, this is packed in standard jewel case, while the obi is no longer dark green with white kanji, yellow with black kanji instead, and it does not cover the whole back piece of the packaging.)
