I find this release is a missed opportunity. Although there are some other, smaller works on this disc, it's primarily a re-release of Saint-Saëns's Organ Symphony. However, this recording is part of a complete cycle that Jean Martinon did for EMI. It would have made more sense, in my opinion, to have issued the entire cycle on two discs instead of excising the most popular symphony and forgetting about the rest. In 2013, EMI did release the complete cycle of symphonies on SACD but that's been sold out for a long time now. It would have been nice to have made it available again. And the sound would probably have been better than on the previous EMI SACDs.
I'm going to pass this one up unless Tower Records also release the other symphonies of the cycle while the present disc is still available.
