Even the consistently excellent remasterings of the Japanese Universal SHM SACDs cannot usually hide the fact that you can very often hear the age of the original recordings. Very rarely do recordings sound so natural that you can be deceived as to their true age.
In my opinion, this SACD is one of those rare examples that sound so convincingly natural that you really have to make sure that these recordings were made in the mid-1970s! The only small drawback: the musical enjoyment is somehow disturbed by the narrator. I would actually find it more enjoyable without a narrator, but that is of course a matter of taste.
Even if the two pieces are sometimes regarded as school music for children, I can only warmly recommend this SACD!

The original vinyl recording was very good. Still plays well and sounds superb after 50 years of playing on my (various) system(s); (not every day of course!)

Contrapunctus, I agree with you 10000% on the narrator. I turned it off after a few tracks because I find it unlistenable due to the narrator. I just want to hear the music and this recording won't let you. Alas. It's also such unusual repertoire for Böhm and from what I did manage to get through, he's surprisingly fun!
