Absolute top-notch performances gorgeously recorded. Faust's control and nuance are incredible; the Violin Sonata might even top Viktoria Mullova's, it's that good. The rest of the works are nearly or entirely peerlessly done as well, making this recording one humungous source of immense pleasure and joy. The most important work here is of course the Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, and if you never before understood its elevated status and singularity, Xavier de Maistre, Antoine Tamestit, Magali Mosnier make it x-ray clear to anyone who was still doubting. Queyras is the finest cellist currently performing, and this would also be worth acquiring just to hear him in these marvellous sonics. No weak spots at all, anywhere. OK, some of the piano pieces are a bit of fillers, as far as their substantive quality goes in the context of Debussy's oeuvre.
These Harmonia Mundi/King International special editions will disappear fast in the collections of Japanese music aficionados, so if you are even vaguely contemplating, act without delay.
