Hold on, how many issues of this on SACD do we need? Is this, like, the 4th version??

Comment by Contrapunctus - January 7, 2024 (2 of 6)

Haha, you're right, DYB! - I myself had made the suggestion to include this edition, because chronologically this TowerRecords edition has already been on the market since 08/2021 - and thus a good year older than the Esoteric edition of 12/2022. Apparently there seems to be a large fan community here for Esoteric, which makes sure that all new releases are entered promptly - in contrast to TowerRecords releases. Well, just a guess. I make no secret of my rather critical attitude towards the Esoteric SACDs, especially since everything related to remastering is a complete black box.

This TowerRecords edition is based on a new remastering by Emil Berliner Studios from June 2021, which was created with the well-known good care and quality. From what I've heard, the result sounds really good. And the best thing about this edition: it's still readily available (e.g. from cdjapan), unlike the Esoteric disc.

Here's a brief chronologic overview:

2004: Japanese Universal Hybrid-SACD
2010: Japanese Universal SHM-SACD
2021: TowerRecords Hybrid-SACD
2022: Esoteric Hybrid-SACD

I believe the discs are submitted by the labels to John.
There are no longer fan submissions, like on the old site.

Contrapunctus, Oh ok, this is just the same as the 2021 release (the one I have and yes, prefer!) Thanks for clarifying! (Because there is a frequent overlap with too many titles getting multiple new editions while so many other great recordings languish without any HD remaster.)

Steve Harrison, when I notice a release is missing on this site, I pick a disc that is listed here and that's related in some way (e.g. same label or same conductor). I then click at the bottom of the page where it says "Click here to report errors or omissions in the music details" and send message indicating what the missing release is. In most cases, the missing disc is added a few days later.

Good on you for that.
It is important to get discs into the database here, for everyone's benefit.
