Why indeed? Chandos and BIS have been encouraged to do so many times over many years. BIS ( now Apple) has flirted with 24/192 but probably didn't want the expense of ...
After emailing Chandos, I was told the forthcoming disc of symphonies 1 & 3 was switched to CD because the only hybrid SACD plant went down for 12 weeks of maintenance. They ...
Can anyone who owns this SACD verify that this is a Multichannel recording? NativeDSD is only offering downloads in stereo. I am surprised because two previous recordings on ...
What puzzles me is 24/96. Why stop at 96? Why not go to DXD? Is there a reason not to? Does the set-up change if the resolution is bumped to it? They can't be worried about ...
Disappointing release. The overall slow (and sometimes inconsistent) tempi and an excessive mannerism lead to a boring performance, that seldom attracts attention. From a ...
We must commend Chandos for continuing to produce SACDs of outstanding musical integrity. As the numerous positive reviews confirm, the chosen resolution of 24/96 is more than ...

Released April 28, 2024, as a single disc SACD hybrid in a card sleeve. A bit surprisingly for a Japanese SACD release the disc is made/glass mastered by Sony DADC in Europe.
There is no indication of mastering provenance, and the Phonographic Copyright year is given as 2015. Whilst the Burning Shed UK website states it uses remastered material from 2010.
This edition also includes a "Collectors Edition" booklet as a separate item. This booklet was also used for an earlier 2015 Japanese two-disc SHM-CD release (VSCD4304/5) of the title, albeit with the bonus disk tracks removed from the back of the booklet.
The run times for these two releases are essentially the same - SACD 55.50 v's SHM-CD 55.52
Listened to back-to-back it is difficult to land on any real differences between them. Maybe the SHM-CD is ever so slightly brighter, but there sure isn't much in it.
So certainly, it's worth getting this new SACD version if you don't already have one of the earlier 2009 remastered CD versions. After that though positive differences are likely small.
