Abbado's only Shostakovich recording (that I know of), meaning it'd be self-recommending even without being the marvel of a performance that it is here, but don't ignore the warhorse-Tchaikovsky, either: the slow movement in it is unheard-of. Spellbinding. I'm hooked, almost impossible to believe in this work. And in pleasing sonics, too.
