Again many will complain that this new edition is stereo only, but what an edition!
The first Sacds issued by Universal only improved the CDs a little bit, the sound remaining rather distant and dry. The pure audio blu ray was not an improvement either, I have always found a loss of focus on that format.
I was surprised that Tower records Japan had added a new remastering to their catalogue.
It really sounds different : immediately one can feel that the voices have more substance with a nice blooming around, sounding the most pleasant and involving. They are not that distant but not too close either.
This new remastering almost makes me forget the true problem of that recording for me : the dialogues are not spoken by the singers themselves although they are all native from german speaking countries...
Not all Tower records Japan sacds are an improvement compared to the previously available versions, but that one surely is!

Thank you very much, Hade! This is really interesting, because the source (PCM 24/192) for this new remastering is actually the same as for the earlier SHM‑SACD release. I wouldn’t have expected any noticeable differences at all. But your experience shows that even when the source transfer is the same, different remasterings or remixes can still produce different results. Now I’m curious about a comparable case: Beethoven’s five piano concertos with Gulda, the VPO, and Horst Stein!

That is totally consistent with the following :
[Remastering]
DSD Remastering by Emil Berliner Studios, May 2025.
The DSD data, created in 2016 from the original analog master tapes in Germany, has been remastered for this release at Emil Berliner Studios in Germany. DSD data for the SA-CD layer was created, and the CD layer was converted to 44.1 kHz/16-bit to create separate masters.

I agree that speaking parts not being done by the singers is such a glaring mistake with this recording. It's *obviously* not the singers speaking. (Kleiber ruined more than one opera recording; his "Die Fledermaus" is a catastrophe because of his joke Orlofsky casting.)
