The culmination of an extraordinary nine-year collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, Gianandrea Noseda, LSO Live proudly presents Shostakovich: Symphonies nos. 1–15.
A complete symphony cycle offers not only a comprehensive journey through a composer’s artistic evolution but also a unique glimpse into history, revealing the world as they experienced it. Few composers embody this more than Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975), whose career was profoundly shaped by the political pressures of Soviet Russia. His symphonies are known for walking the line between outward conformity and hidden defiance, often infused with irony and coded resistance.
Renowned for his mastery of Russian repertoire, Noseda brings a rare depth of understanding to this recording, shaped in part by his work alongside musicians who personally knew Shostakovich. This new interpretation of the complete symphonies showcases his signature dynamism, insight, and flair – earning its place among the most definitive recordings of our time.
‘A cycle of symphonies gives the complete picture. Shostakovich started at a very early age with the First Symphony, and finished just a few years before he died with Symphony no.15, so he covered half a century. It’s storytelling of his life, but also of what was going on in the world in the 20th century.' – Gianandrea Noseda

A few of these were not made available individually before this full set and I'll be very angry if they expect us to re-purchase the set just to get those titles!
Edited: I see the full SACD set is quite cheap - under $50. But I was purchasing DSD files from NativeDSD.

We don’t know what the NativeDSD pricing will be yet, but it looks like the complete set on Amazon will cost less than if you bought the 3 unreleased SACDs individually.

Right, it's wild.

Hi DYB.
I doubt there is anything untoward about this, it's probably much cheaper for LSO Live to release all the new stuff in one box rather than issue them as new single discs.
The main issue is whether Noseda's readings offer any fresh insights beyond and above the many surveys that have gone before on SACD. I have one or two of the earlier releases which to me are okay but not outstanding enough to warrant a purchase of the complete survey.

I received the box last, but I have to return it due to a mstering problem. Instead of Symphony 8, which was labeled correctly, it contains the whole 9th symphony in Track 1 plus for other tracks, which also don´t belong to Symphony 8. It seems that this fault will be included in the whole batch.

I have just checked Symphony no.8 in my set - which I had not played yet - by comparing it to the Spotify version of the original individual release. Thankfully they are both identical on all tracks. So if I understand you right clearly the problem with the disc labelled "Symphony no.8" does not exist in all sets. So no need for anyone who has bought this set to panic just yet - if you want to quickly get peace of mind you can do the same thing that I have just done.

I have now received a replacement copy of the "Symphony No.8" SACD and once again it is the wrong music. It looks as though LSO Live have not yet remastered this correctly. There is no other source of the surround version so far as I am aware.

I have since noticed that the Symphony No.8 has been available separately since 2019 so the solution is to obtain that or get LSO Live themselves to send a free copy of LSO 0822

Dear all,
Apologies for the delay in picking up on this thread and responding.
As noted above, unfortunately there was a mastering issue affecting solely the multi-channel audio stream on the SA layer of Disc 7 within this set. What should have been the audio for Symphony No. 8 ended up in pressing as the audio from Disc 8 (Symphonies Nos 9 and 10). However, the tracking points and disc length were still set as they should have been for Disc 7 (Symphony No 8).
Replacement discs for Disc 7, with the corrected multi-channel stream, have been manufactured. As it is clearly impractical (both from a economic and environmental point of view) to recall all sets in circulation worldwide, replace the disc, rewrap the product, and send the units back into the distribution chain, we are asking customers who would like a replacement disc either to contact the distributor in their local territory (https://lsolive.lso.co.uk/pages/distribution) or to e-mail our office directly at lsolive[at]lso.co.uk to request a replacement Disc 7, which can be posted out worldwide free of charge.
Many thanks for your understanding.
