Version long awaited on sacd : the sound is full bodied but the remastering cannot improve the flaws of the original recording. It reminds me Tower Records' attempt to remove the edginess of Molinari-Pradelli's Turandot. Fortunately that Butterfly keeps its top register and remains somewhat "atmospheric". However regarding the interpretation, de Los Angeles and Björling sound dated and much more old fashioned than I remembered. Freni and Pavarotti on the recent re-issue by Decca are much more involving and exciting under Karajan and in splendid sound!
