This new edition has not been issued by Tower Records but by Rca/Sony.
It is différent from their previous and first "living stereo" issue.
The voices do not sound as big as on the recent Towerd Records remastered recordings (sometime sounding too big...). The sound remains clear but the engineers have tried to reduce the dryness of the previous version, it has become "silky" in a way. The orchestra and Tebaldi benefit from it the most, showing no agressiveness. Some edginess remains on the timbre of Björling and Nilsson's voice sounds thinner than it actually was. A Tower Records remastering would have been profitable for her to develop her voice chest, however the sound engineers have been very respectful with the source : it is a recording from 1959 with the limitations of that early stereo period (in only 2-3 years, the sound quality would have improved significantly). This edition now is the best available one to discover that recording in the best possible conditions.
