Review by John Broggio - September 9, 2012
Just like the preceding volumes (Mozart: Youth Symphonies Vol. 1 - Marriner and Mozart: Youth Symphonies Vol. 2 - Marriner), the playing from Sir Neville Marriner and the ASMF is first rate and placed plumb between HIP and "old-school" performing styles. In short, it's hard to conceive of more sympathetic or engaging performances of these early Mozartian symphonies (on period or modern instruments). A minor point of interest is that we are given an alternative slow movement to Symphony No. 19 (the Andante grazioso K. 132) as an "encore".
The sound is, in common with the other releases, very good for its age (and there are several SACDs of recent years that sound a good deal inferior in every respect).
Recommended.
