This is another in a series of releases that Spyro Gyra have done with Heads Up International. This is a robust series of funks and grooves, but there is more to the album than that. Plenty of great soloing and fantastic horn arrangements are added to the mix.
The arrangements are more complex here compared to their earlier albums and this album really rocks. There is an intensity here that was not present on much of their early work and Beckenstein and Schuman are still the main stalwarts who head up this band. This album get better with each listen.
There is some vocal work here that I am not all that interested in, but this does not detract from the fantastic musicianship that Beckenstein and company have on display here. With dazzling virtuosity, this is high energy music that is sure to please.
I also like the DSD recording that you can just keep turning up and turning up and the sound never becomes harsh or unpleasant. Smooth and top rate recording in DSD 5.1 that surround sound enthusiasts will enjoy. I am so glad I ordered this finally and the album moves along quickly and is so full of energy. That Spyro Gyra upbeat quality is still a trademark of this group. Highly recommended.
