Just finished listening to this... Pires' interpretation is for the ages. But what about the sound? It's very good. Esoteric did whatever they do upscaling standard 16 bit ...
Looking forward to this.
The Symphony on Pentatone is very well played and enjoyable but it will interesting to see what Wilson does with it.
This is what I found from one of the Japanese audio magazine, via Google Translate :)

Thanks for the recommendations. This SACD is on my Presto Classical wishlist. Looking forward to playing it loud on my Magnepan 20.7s.
I can see where you are coming from. Litton was able to bring the Bergen Phil to life in a way that seems to escape Mr Gardner although to be fair Litton had many years tenure ...
Phew! Recorded in 1978, but sounds like yesterday. The Japanese sure know how to look after their master tapes.
The remaster was done by Bob Ludwig at Gateway in the USA. The ...
Adrian, that's very exciting news. I've had the Pentatone box for some time now and feel it is one of the jewels of their catalogue. Both Kodama and Pentatone deserve credit ...
This is the second time AP have issued a SACD transfer of this title. Curiously this one has the same catalogue number (but a different prefix) as the first one from well over ...

This is another in a series of releases that Spyro Gyra have done with Heads Up International. This is a robust series of funks and grooves, but there is more to the album than that. Plenty of great soloing and fantastic horn arrangements are added to the mix.
The arrangements are more complex here compared to their earlier albums and this album really rocks. There is an intensity here that was not present on much of their early work and Beckenstein and Schuman are still the main stalwarts who head up this band. This album get better with each listen.
There is some vocal work here that I am not all that interested in, but this does not detract from the fantastic musicianship that Beckenstein and company have on display here. With dazzling virtuosity, this is high energy music that is sure to please.
I also like the DSD recording that you can just keep turning up and turning up and the sound never becomes harsh or unpleasant. Smooth and top rate recording in DSD 5.1 that surround sound enthusiasts will enjoy. I am so glad I ordered this finally and the album moves along quickly and is so full of energy. That Spyro Gyra upbeat quality is still a trademark of this group. Highly recommended.
Performance: **** out of 5
Sound: (MCH) ***** out of 5
